Last Baby Born in 2009

Shakita McNichols and Kevin Gordon along with Twin Rivers CEO Clyde Wood pose with new baby Shakyra Renee Ann Gordon.

At 11:55 p.m. on New Year’s Eve Shakita McNichols, 25, welcomed Shakyra Renee Ann Gordon into the world.

“The nurses told me the time, so I knew we were really close to being the first baby of 2010, but little Shakyra just couldn’t wait,” says McNichols of Gosnell, Ark.

McNichols’ new baby girl was ushered into the world by Nelson Perez, M.D. just five minutes before midnight on December 31.  The baby weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and measured 20 inches.  This is the third child for McNichols and Kevin Gordon.  They have a son, Quraun, 6, and a daughter, Kevrianna, 3.  Teresita Manubay, M.D. serves as the baby’s pediatrician.

By only missing the New Year by a few minutes, their daughter has the distinction of being the last baby born at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in 2009.  Traditionally, only the New Year’s Baby receives gifts, so her parents were a little surprised to receive gifts sponsored by the Kennett H&R Block office.
